Our Endowment Fund

Our endowment fund is money set aside and invested to earn revenue. Investment returns that are generated are then used to fund the operations of the Museum and further grow the endowment. The Museum celebrates the people, culture, and heritage of the Island and donations to our endowment fund aid us in continuing that mission by sustaining the Museum for years to come.

Gifts to the Endowment are a great way to memorialize a lost loved one or to honor someone for an anniversary or other accomplishment.

Object Loans & Donations

Do you have an artifact you’d like to see preserved? Another way to help preserve the history of Chincoteague Island is by donating or lending items of historical significance to the Museum’s collection. Donations of objects and artifacts are acknowledged in writing for tax purposes.

Please keep in mind that only objects that have to do with Chincoteague and Assateague Islands history will be accepted into the collection. Items are vetted by Curator and Board of Directors before being accepted.

Volunteer

The Museum of Chincoteague Island relies on the support of dedicated volunteers to help us preserve and share the rich history of the area. We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available, from working at the front desk and in the office, to assisting with construction projects or serving as guest lecturers. Our volunteers enjoy the comradery that comes from working together towards a common goal, and we value the contributions they make to the museum.

Join Our Board

The Museum of Chincoteague Island is seeking volunteer leaders to join its Board of Directors.

Board members are actively involved in organizational governance, and are expected to attend monthly meetings, participate in at least two board committees, and make a personal financial contribution each year, commensurate with one’s capacity and ability. We welcome a variety of skills, connections, and expertise.
