Life History Project
The Chincoteague Island Life History Project is a collaborative effort undertaken by the Museum of Chincoteague Island and the Chincoteague Island Library. This project aims to preserve the voices and stories of the people of Chincoteague Island, creating an archive that provides deep insight into the culture, heritage, and history of this fascinating barrier island community.
The Chincoteague Island Library began this project in 2004 as an oral history initiative, led by the late Margo Hunt. The Museum joined the project in 2014, and in 2022, the Chincoteague Island Library transferred its holdings to the Museum of Chincoteague Island. Recordings are available on the Museum’s YouTube Channel and the Chincoteague Island Library website.
Register of Historic Places
A new venture for the Museum of Chincoteague Island, the Register of Historic Places preserves information regarding the Island’s variety of historic homes. A listing in the registry is strictly honorary. Homes should be at least 50 years old or be of exceptional importance.
