Want to Tell our Story?

The Museum of Chincoteague Island is a small history museum that first opened its doors in 1972. Ever since then, we’ve been preserving and exhibiting objects focused on the history and culture of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. The Museum was founded by a group of women on Chincoteague who were dedicated to preserving the history of the seafood and oyster industry. This focus eventually expanded to preserving the history and culture of both Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. Our mission is to collect, preserve, display, and interpret the history of these beautiful islands. We’re your experts on Chincoteague and Assateague history!
